NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ON BROADVIEW AVE. IN FAUQUIER CO.
CULPEPER — On Monday, January 27, a contractor with the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the far-right northbound lane of U.S. 17 (Broadview Avenue) between U.S. 211 (Frost Avenue) and Winchester Street in the Town of Warrenton.
The closure will last for an estimated 90 days while crews replace curbs and sidewalks along that stretch of the roadway. During this time, access to all businesses along the corridor will remain open, but drivers should use caution and watch for workers near business entryways. The lane closure will stay in place during the evening and overnight hours. Occasionally, crews may also temporarily close other lanes along the corridor from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Eastbound traffic on Frost Avenue turning north on Broadview Avenue will continue to utilize both turn lanes and will then merge into the left lane after completing the turn onto U.S. 17.
This $17.1 million SMART Scale project is designed to improve safety and lessen traffic congestion in the Town of Warrenton and includes:
- Reconstruction of the intersection of Frost Avenue (Route 211) and Broadview Avenue.
- Signal modifications.
- Installation of short medians to improve safety and manage access.
- Crosswalk and sidewalk upgrades
- 5-foot bike lanes on both sides of the road
The completion date is May, 2026.
