Orthopedic surgeon Anna Green, MD, brings hand and upper extremity care to our community
We are thrilled to announce Dr. Anna H. Green has joined our practice. She is the 14th orthopedic surgeon to join Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center since it was founded in 1977.
Dr. Green is fellowship-trained in Hand and Upper Extremity surgery, and her specialized surgical skills enhance our practice’s ability to provide comprehensive care for a wide range of hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder conditions. She is also well-versed in non-operative treatment options, ensuring our patients receive the most appropriate care. Her patients can expect the highest level of individualized care for orthopedic conditions such as:
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Trigger finger
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- Arthritis
- Tendonitis/tendinopathy
- Distal radius fractures
- Acute trauma injuries
Dr. Green’s approach to patient care includes a strong focus on communication, compassion, and trust.
“As an orthopedic hand surgeon, I am committed to delivering thoughtful and compassionate care that restores function and improves quality of life,” says Dr. Green. “I prioritize educating patients and involving them in every step of decision-making. I strive to treat each patient with the same care and attention I would give my own family — honoring their goals, respecting their concerns, and helping them return to what they love with confidence.”
Dr. Green's decision to join our practice reflects a deep connection to our community. A Northern Virginia native who attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, she brings her career full circle by returning to serve the community.
"Serving patients in this region feels especially meaningful,” she says.
Dr. Green’s postsecondary educational journey began at The College of William and Mary, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Public Health. As a student, she served as a volunteer EMT for the Williamsburg Fire Department. She then earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Her medical training continued with an orthopedic surgery residency at Rutgers University, where she mentored the next generation of surgeons through the Association of Women Surgeons, volunteered as a team physician for local high schools and Rutgers University Football, and won awards from both the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Eastern Orthopedic association.
She completed her Hand & Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, highly regarded for their orthopedic fellowship programs.
Dr. Green's research contributions have advanced the understanding of patient care in orthopedic surgery. Her work spans from innovative treatment approaches for fingertip injuries to comprehensive studies on patient outcomes following common injuries like distal radius fractures. She has been particularly interested in improving patient compliance with rehabilitation exercises, and outcomes after perilunate injuries.
Dr. Green is now accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, patients can contact Blue Ridge Orthopaedic & Spine Center at 540-347-9220 or www.blueridgeortho.com.
