Communications Specialist
The Communications Specialist plays a key leadership role in advancing the mission and visibility of The Arc of North Central Virginia. Working closely with the Executive Director, Program Specialist, Board of Directors, and volunteers, this position leads the organization's communications, marketing, outreach, and engagement efforts to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families throughout Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock counties. As a critical member of a small and growing nonprofit organization, the Communications Specialist must be creative, organized, self-motivated, and passionate about advancing inclusion and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. This part-time position requires 20–25 hours per week and offers a flexible hybrid schedule that includes regular in-person office hours in Warrenton, telework, online meetings, in-person events, and occasional evening and weekend events. Compensation: $18 –$20 per hour.
Responsibilities:
● Draft and distribute the organization's bi-monthly electronic newsletter
● Maintain and update the organizational website, online calendar, and digital communications
● Develop promotional materials, flyers, brochures, presentations, and publications
● Create content and manage organizational social media platforms
● Draft letters, reports, press releases, and other written communications
● Maintain consistent organizational branding and messaging across all communication channels
● Manage the organization's Google Voice line and general communications
● Maintain records and data within organizational databases and Google Drive
● Assist with meeting preparation, trainings, workshops, board meetings, and events
● Support event planning, registration, and participant communications
● Support donor communications, sponsorship outreach, and fundraising campaigns
● Support grant communication and reporting efforts
● Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Proficiency with office technology including Email, Canva, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
● Preferred experience with Facebook, WordPress (basic website updates), and database management.
● Strong organizational, project management, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn
● Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
● Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
● Access to high-speed internet ● Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
● Transportation within the Culpeper and Fauquier area
● Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
