Let’s Celebrate the Creative Spirit – The Great Mother March is Coming to Warrenton

NEWS RELEASE

Dear Warrenton Arts Community,

I wanted to share something truly inspiring that’s coming to our town this spring.

On Saturday, April 18th, 2026, The Great Mother March—a women-led, 32-day pilgrimage walking from Asheville to Washington, D.C.—will arrive here in Warrenton. This march is grounded in creativity, Earth connection, and the power of collective action to seed compassionate change.

The founder, Whitney Freya, is an artist and educator who has been teaching sacred and personal painting practices for nearly 30 years. The March itself is a living expression of that creative spirit—participants walk with a large traveling mural, inviting each community to leave their mark and contribute to a shared vision of unity, healing, and possibility.

I believe this is a beautiful opportunity for our arts community to come together and host a celebration—perhaps a gallery walk, an open studio day or a pop-up art market. Art Studio 81 will be hosting the marchers in our studio at 81 Main Street for a collaborative public art piece to welcome the marchers and share our own creativity community.

If this idea speaks to you, and you’d be interested in helping shape an event around their arrival, we’d love to connect and co-create something meaningful together.

Let’s make this a day to honor the creative spirit that unites us all.
