Fauquier FISH Expands Service Hours to Meet Growing Need Amid Shutdown and SNAP Delays
Warrenton, VA (October 29, 2025) — In response to the ongoing government shutdown, Fauquier FISH will open its food pantry for a special session to support federal workers impacted by the closure on Thursday, October 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The pantry will then continue with its regularly scheduled session from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Understanding the financial strain that missed paychecks can cause, FISH invites any affected federal employees to visit during this special session. “We know that asking for help can be difficult,” said Charity Furness, Executive Director of Fauquier FISH. “Our doors are open with kindness and respect for our neighbors who suddenly find themselves in need. We’re here to help bridge the gap until things return to normal.”
In addition, FISH will be open during its normal hours on Saturday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 4, to welcome any family struggling to afford food, including those who may be waiting on delayed SNAP benefits as a result of the shutdown. To make sure no one goes without support, FISH has canceled its planned volunteer break (November 1–4), which was originally meant to give volunteers a short rest before the holidays.
At this time, FISH is fortunate to have all the volunteers needed to meet current demand. However, community members who wish to support these emergency efforts are encouraged to make a monetary donation through the organization’s website at www.fauquierfish.org. Every contribution helps FISH provide healthy, nutritious food for families across Fauquier County.
Fauquier FISH – Feed. Inspire. Support. Health. – is a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding our neighbors, inspiring hope, supporting those in need, and promoting health throughout our community with dignity and kindness.
